DON WARNER RETIRES AFTER 40 YEARS AS MAIL CARRIER

On Wednesday, September 30th, 1959, Don Warner, Rural Letter Carrier on route three of Greenwood made his last trip delivering mail, finishing forty years of service that day. He received his appointment October 1, 1919.

Don has many experiences to tell about, enough to fill a book, would he take the time, but he has many hobbies that he is anxious to devote his time to—Fishing and hunting come high on the list and he has been equipping his basement to another one of his hobbies—Cabinet making and working with wood.

In his 40 years of delivering mail he has used 12 horses and the following cars, one Maxwell, two Snowmobiles, three Model T Fords, one Star Car, six Plymouths, one dodge and six Fords, beside some second hand cars. His route was 28 ½ miles long when he started serving 186 boxes and it was 54 miles when he finished, serving 175 boxes. Has had every kind of road you could think of, but his patrons always knew if anyone at all could get through, Don would.

His fellow Letter Carriers and their wives of Clark County gave Don and Lillian a lovely dinner party at the Granton Lutheran Church September 30th at 6:30 p.m. Besides the Carriers and their wives, it was attended by the personnel of the Greenwood Post Office and their wives. Don was given a ring with the Rural Letter Carrier insignia and Lillian was given a pair of vases by the Auxiliary.

Don has served as president of the County Carriers and is a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church of Greenwood.

The Warner’s have three children, Mrs. Don (Norma) Telford, Eau Claire; Dick of Chetek, and Mrs. Tom (Ann) Larson of Montgomery, Alabama. They also have eight grandchildren.
