Steven Louis Kessler, 58, passed away at the House of the Dove Hospice, Marshfield, on Good Friday, April 18, 2014, after a courageous battle with cancer. Steve was born in Neillsville on August 13, 1955.

He was an avid golfer and outdoorsman. Steve was a longtime member of Neillsville Country Club and and successful tournament player in the area. His hunting prowess-especially rifle and bow deer hunting-also yielded many trophies.

Steve grew up leaning the virtues of dedication and hard work in his family’s farming operations. He graduated from Neillsville High School in 1973 and had an associate degree from CVTC and a finance degree from, the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. His career included financial planning and insurance sales, and most recently, he founded, operated and successfully grew SkyLinK, a technology services dealership. Steve also worked tirelessly to remodel and then gain Wisconsin and National Historical designation for the family-owned Silver Dome Ballroom.

Above everything else, he loved his faith and family. He was an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Neillsville where he enjoyed involvement in the liturgy and ministries to help others. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Steve is survived by his loving and caring parents, Louis and Shirley Kessler of Neillsville; and siblings, Shari (Richard) Brauch, Minneapolis, MN, Jeff (Sara) Kessler of Onalaska and Jane (Daniel) Flynn, Cleghorn. He is further survived by nieces and nephews, Bennett and Briana Kulhman, Clare and Sloan Kessler, and Carson Flynn. Steve was very close to his aunt Linda Davis of Eau Claire and is survived by many other aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Carl and Clara Kessler and Bill and Peggy Davis; uncles, Ronald Davis, Leo, Carl Jr., and Ken Kessler, Ernest Schwellenbach and Forrest Larsen; and aunts, Mildred Schwellenbach and Elaine Haas.

A mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 1813 Black River Road, Neillsville, Saturday April 26, 2014, at 10 a.m. with visitation starting at 9 a.m. A visitation is also planned for Friday evening, April 25, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Gesche Funeral Home in Neillsville.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family are preferred in support of St. Mary’s Catholic Church seminarians.
