The Home Restaurant was practically destroyed by fire early Tuesday morning. Mrs. Frank Weiland, proprietor of the stock and fixtures of the restaurant, had just returned home from the R.N.A. meeting and was retiring for the night when she smelled smoke. She investigated and found the kitchen on fire and then returned upstairs to awaken her five children and the Misses Gertrude Severson and Angeline Perushek. The latter two being employed in the restaurant.

The fire apparently started in the basement of the two-story frame building, evidently from electric wires, as there had been no fires in the stoves. The fire department was summoned and after two hours of fighting, the flames were extinguished, leaving part of the wall standing. The building and contents are a total loss.

The Dr. Boeckman building, just south of the restaurant, was also on fire when the fire department arrived, but was quickly extinguished. The Boeckman building was somewhat damaged.

Mrs. Weiland purchased the restaurant from Mrs. O.C. Behrens last August, since which time she has had charge of it.

The children escaped in their nigh clothes and were taken to the home of mrs. N.J. Carter, where they were cared for temporarily.

Whether or not the structure will be rebuilt is not known at this time.

Mrs. VanVoorhis, who owns the building, had insurance and Mrs. Weiland also carried insurance on the contents.
