One hundred and four school from Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Illinois participated in the seventeenth Dorian Instrumental Festival at Luther College, Decorah, Iowa. We are very proud to say that our of approximately 35 students from Wisconsin, two are from Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.). They are Kathy Kluk, senior, who plays a tenor saxophone, and Peter Anderson, senior, who plays the tuba. These students were selected on their background in music, the achievements on their solos and ensembles, and various other considerations.

Kathy and Peter, along with Mr. Charles Mahnke, the band director, and Ann Wilhelm, their accompanist, left Sunday, March 6th, and returned on Tuesday, March 8th. The various activities that the 256 students took part in were: mass band, in which all the students rehearsed and performed as one group, and solo programs. Donald Jackson, Mr. Livingston, Dr. Getchell, Nilo Hovey and Mark McDunn were advisers who helped them with their solos as much as possible.

Bowling, pool and Ping-Pong were available for recreation, and the Terrapins, a synchronized swim and water ballet club, presented a show. On the last night of their stay, the Grand Concert by the Florian Festival Band, outstanding soloists and ensembles, and the Luther College Concert Band offered entertainment.
