Mason, Alma (2 December 1884- 12 January 1973)

Mrs. Alma Mason, 88, of Greenwood, died January 12 in Neillsville where she had been admitted to the hospital January 3. Funeral services were held Monday from Grace United Methodist Church and burial was made in the Greenwood Cemetery.

The former Alma Watrud, daughter of Cever and Elizabeth (Ingwell) Watrud, was born December 2, 1884, in Blanchardville. She received her education and was married there on February 20, 1907, to Clarence Mason. They lived in Blanchardville until 1915, when they settled on a farm south of Greenwood. They moved later to a farm northwest of Greenwood and in 1935 moved into the city. Mr. Mason died July 16, 1941.

Mrs. Mason was a member of Grace Methodist Church, the United Methodist Church women and the Forest Queen Royal Neighbors.

She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Arthur (Minerva) Strommen of Spooner, Mrs. Lloyd (Zelda) Longridge and Mrs. Clarissa Steele, both of Greenwood; a son, Robert, of St. Joseph, Mo.; 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Ted (Clara) Anderson of Stoughton; and four brothers: Charles of New Glarus, George and Ben of Blanchardville; and Leslie Watrud of Rice Lake.

Funeral services for Mrs. Alma Mason were held last week Monday afternoon from Grace United Methodist Church in Greenwood. The Rev. Eugene Antrim officiated and burial was made in the Greenwood Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Tom Steele, John Maeder, William Bonasho, Donald Watrud, Robert Watrud and Harold Blaasch. Gary Schultz sang “The Old Rugged Cross” and “Beyond the Sunset,” accompanied on the organ by Mrs. Gary Schultz.

Relatives from away who attended were Mr. and Mrs. Robert Mason, St. Joseph, Mo.; Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Strommen, Spooner; Mrs. William Milz and Mrs. Audrey Solomen, Milwaukee; Mr. and Mrs. William Bonasho, Roseville, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Watrud, Mr. and Mrs. George Watrud and Ben Watrud, Blanchardville; Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Watrud, Rice Lake; Mr. and Mrs. Donald Watrud, Spooner; Mrs. Edwin Vinje, Hollandale; Mrs. Frieda Watrud, Barneveld; Mrs. Ester Watrud, Blanchardville; Mr. and Mrs. Tom Steele , Wausau; and Mr and Mrs. John Maeder, Wisconsin Rapids.
