Haas, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph (60th - 27 July 1973)

The children of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Haas, Rt. 3 Stanley, arranged for a celebration of their parents’ 60th wedding anniversary Saturday.

A 1:00 p.m., mass with two grandsons, Mark Koltis and Jeff Hull, serving preceded the open house at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church and hall. It was here the honored couple had celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1963.

Both Mr. and Mrs. Haas were born and raised in the area south of Thorp.

Joseph was the middle child of a family of nine and was born May 17, 1890. Among his first jobs were working in a livery barn, doing carpenter work and the winter task of working in the woods.

After their marriage on July 27, 1913, at St. Bernard’s Church, they farmed in the Thorp area. For the past 30 years they have lived in Stanley where they had farmed. Their only living attendant, Mrs. Margaret Kaas, Thorp, was present for the celebration.

Mrs. Haas is the former Anna Banderob. She was born May 2, 1896, the youngest of ten children. For a number of years she had been an officer while a member of the Busy Bee Homemakers. She is also a member of the Ladies’ Catholic Order of Foresters. Her cooking and baking has earned her the affectionate title of “Mrs. Hospitality.”

Joseph likes to play cards and also keeps busy cracking nuts, locally grown, for his family including 39 grandchildren and 37 great grandchildren. Years past, he has held the office of constable of the Town of Thorp. He is a member of the Men’s Catholic Order of Foresters.

Mrs. Adolph Koltis had baked and decorated the wedding cake and had also made the corsages for the event. The honored couple’s granddaughter, Kim Ciolkosz, Chippewa Falls, tended the guest book.

All of the children were present for the celebration and a family get-together was held Sunday at the Edward Hull home. The children include: Mrs. Vilas Hanson, Spencer; Melburn Haas, Stanley; Dean Haas, Lockport, Il.; Mrs. Joseph (Ruth) Dupey, Spooner; Mrs. Edward (Marion) Hull, Stanley; Mrs. Rudy (Ethel) Ciolkosz, Chippewa Falls; Mrs. Adolph (Pat) Koltis, Thorp; and James Haas, Waukegan, Il.
