Brown, Louis (9 DEC 1895 – 28 MAR 1946)

Louis Brown, son of William and Inez Brown, was born Dec. 9, 1895 in Fremont, Wis. At the age of 16 he came to Greenwood (Clark County, Wis.), where he learned the barber trade from his brother Lloyd, and has been a barber in Greenwood since that time.

He was united in marriage to Hazel Murphy on Jan. 8, 1920. To this union one son, Lavern, was born.

During World War I he served overseas with the 502 Quarter Master Detachment. He was a member of the American Legion and a member of the Modern Woodman Lodge.

He passed away at his home on March 28, 1946, having reached the age of 50 years, 3 months and 19 days. His mother passed away in 1926.

He is survived by his wife and son, his father, William Brown of Chippewa Falls; one brother, Lloyd of Gordon, Wis., besides other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held with a prayer at the home at 2:00 p.m., and at the Zion Reformed Church at 2:30, Sunday, March 31, with Rev. B.M. Fresenborg of the Zion Church and Rev. J.C. Klingeberger of the West Side Church officiating. During the service Mrs. Albert Dahl, Mrs. Henry Keiner and Miss Louise Keiner sang "Sometime We'll Understand", "Jesus Savior Pilot Me: and "Sweetly Resting," accompanied by Mrs. Adolph Meyer at the organ. He was laid to rest will full military rites at the Greenwood Cemetery.

The honorary pallbearers were: John Meng, Fred Behrens, Harry Stafford, Frank Smaldone, Carl Stabnow and Lee Jolivette, Legionnaires of World War I. The active pallbearers were: Douglas Behrens, James Neuenfeldt, Dale Stabnow, Garth Haeuser, Norman Reineking and Robert Carl, Legionnaires of World War II, and schoolmates of Laverne.

The color bearers were Victor Perman and Wm. Bayuk; the color guards were Bert Brown and Harold Hendrickson, and the firing squad was Gordon Brown, Ted Ampe, Fred Decker, Gottlieb Dill, Harold Schwarze, Harry Wallis. The Legion and its Auxiliary attended as a body.

Those who had charge of the flowers were: Mmes. Carl Stabnow, Fred Behrens, Harold Stabnow and Frank Smaldone.

The esteem in which he was held by all was shown by the lovely flowers and the large attendance at the funeral.

Relatives from away who attended the funeral were: Wm. Brown, Chippewa Falls; Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Brown, Gordon, Wis.; Mr. and Mrs. Elery Moberg and family; Mr. and Mrs. Arne Peterson and Jim Redmond, all of Neillsville; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Murphy and family of Christie and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Murphy of Willard.
