Cliver, Robert ‘Bob’ C. (25 September 1935 - 2015) With Flag

Robert ‘Bob’ C. Cliver, 79 of Pulaski, passed away Thursday, January 8, 2015, at Good Shepherd Services, Seymour. He was born September 25, 1935, in Marshfield, son of the late Robert and Erna (Olm) Cliver.

On Friday September 13, 1957, in Stevens Point, he married the former Genevieve Guell, the daughter of Corwin C. and Anna L. (Zimmerman) Guell of Thorp, WI. Bob enjoyed his two daughters, Michelle ‘Bill’ and Paula ‘Chip’, along with their significant others, Jeff Hendzel and Dan Zintman (Bosco and Bosco). His grandchildren are: Adam Robert Smith and his wife Amy Walter, Thomas William Traywick (with whom he loved to debate politics), Billianne Hope Wiltzius and her fiancé Joseph H. Sullivan, Wendy Louise Traywick and her boyfriend Kalin Ludwick. Bob especially loved doting on his great-grandchildren: Lonnie James Roberts, Declan Grant Smith, Trevor James Sullivan and Hope Emily Sullivan.

Bob attended Marshfield schools, graduating in 1953, and in 1957 graduated from UW-Stevens Point, earning his Bachelor’s degree. He furthered his education in Normal, IL before attending NCO school at Fort Riley, Kansas in 1959. Bob earned his Master’s Degree at Winona State University in Minnesota.

In his early adult years, Bob was a member of the National Guard in Marshfield and Antigo.

He taught 7th and 8th grade Social Studies and English in Antigo for seven years. In 1964, Bob and Gen moved to Seymour where he taught 7th grade English and spelling (including his own daughters), retiring in 1990 at the age of 55.

Bob had several part-time jobs throughout his life, including: summers spent pouring footings with his cousin Ron Cliver, painting schools in Antigo, working for Jack Ostrowski in the summers, working the south gate at the Seymour Fair, driving delivery truck for Mainline, salesperson at Ridgeview Liquor, and at Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Campground in Door County for one summer.

He thoroughly enjoyed his time spent in the Seymour Slow-pitch League as a pitcher for Gallery Supper Club, and he also bowled on the Gallery team. Bob enjoyed time spent with his wife and family at timeshares in Door County, skiing in the U.P. and Colorado, trips to the east coast states and to Florida and Tennessee, Mexico (kudos to Juan and the pearl onions), and Caribbean cruises on Celebrity and Royal Caribbean (Veranda cabins only!).

He owned Green Bay Packer tickets, attending games for at least 30 years, including the Ice Bowl, through thick and thin. He enjoyed reading the Press-Gazette and USA Today, taking pictures of old barns and silos in Door County, tending his flowers inside and outside, feeding and watching birds, time spent at ‘Bob’s Place and Ken Too’ (his cabin in Oconto County), watching Judge Judy and Fox News network, listening to sports radio ‘The Fan’, camping at the land on Pickerel Creek and in Door County at Harbour Village (where he was knows as 3 o’clock Bob), and mastering Sudoku puzzles.

He sadly missed his pet and best friend, a miniature wire-haired dachshund names Westwyre’s Mikki C.

His family greatly appreciates the friendships of the Robert Arlen family of Antigo; Bobby (Hoot) Huettl, Seymour; Kenny Moes, Allouez; Keith Rodda, Florida; Teri Gaedtke, Suamico; John and Kay Kurczek, Seymour; as well as the much needed advice of Oscar A. ‘Tony’ Vallera, and the best neighbors ever from the very first day, Betty and Al Everson and family, Seymour. During his last days, he greatly missed the friendships he had with the Rankins and Caliaros.

Bob is also survived by his extended family members: David Lavine; Eric and Jen Lavine and their twin daughters, Piper and Lucy; Dana and Dave Misner and sons, Max and Eli; and Sara Cliver.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; beloved sister, Carla ‘Susie’ Lavine; cousin, Ron Cliver; and aunts, uncles and cousins.

A Memorial Fund has been established in Bob’s memory for the Wilderness Foundation at the Rushes. Contributions may be mailed to Muehl-Boettcher Funeral Home, Bob Cliver Memorial 358 S. Main Street Seymour, WI 54165.

In honoring Bob’s whishes, there will not be any funeral services held. Muehl-Boettcher Funeral Home, Seymour, is assisting the family. Online condolences may be expressed at www.muehlboettcher.com.
