Austin, Mary A. (Marriage - 4 August 1973)

A reception, dinner and dance at Bali Hai supper club honored Miss Mary A. Austin and Robert E. Piepenhagen, who were married Saturday, August 4, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Neillsville. Officiating at the afternoon ceremony was the Rev. Charles D. Brady. The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Merle D. Austin, Rt. 1 Neillsville, was presented in marriage by her father. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert E. Piepenhagen, Rt. 2 La Crosse.

For her wedding, the former Miss Austin appeared in a gown of sata peau over taffeta trimmed with venise lace and styled with a mid-Victorian neckline, empire bodice with long, full sleeves, A-line skirt and a detachable Watteau train. Matching lace trimmed her fingertip veil. She carried a colonial bouquet of white roses and white baby mums.

Miss Margie Cascio, Rockford, Il., was the maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Miss Peg Piepenhagen, La Crosse, and Miss Linda L. Schoen, Eau Claire. Their gowns of sheer polyester in a pastel print of lilac, pink and white over lilac taffeta lining were fashioned with scoop necklines and leg o’ mutton sleeves. Floral headpieces matched arrangements of daisies and mixed flowers in white baskets.

Serving as bestman was David E. Austin, Neillsville. Groomsmen were Richard Hohmann, Barre Mills, and Timothy Smith, La Crosse. Nick Cascio and Jerry Cascio, both of Rockford, Il., acted as ushers.

Vocalists were Mrs. Rita Kuchenbecker and Mrs. Greta Ross. Mrs. Coletta Short was the organist.

The bride was honored at prenuptial showers given by Miss Cascio and Miss Schoen at Neillsville and by Mrs. Walter Munsen at West Salem.

A 1970 graduate of Neillsville High School and a 1971 graduate of the Eau Claire Technical Institute, the new Mrs. Piepenhagen is employed as a legal secretary for a La Cross law firm. He husband graduated from the Eau Claire Technical Institute in 1973 and is employed as a precision inspector for a La Crosse manufacturing company.

Following their return from a wedding trip to the Apostle Islands, the couple planned to live in La Crosse.
