White gladioli and red roses were placed on the altar of Holy Rosary Catholic Church at Owen for the wedding of Miss Joan Marie Makovec, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Makovec, Owen (Clark Co., Wis.), and James Roger Carlsen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Thorvald Carlsen, Withee (Clark Co.).

The Carlsen-Makovec wedding took place at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, July 31, 1965, with the Rev. H.L. Crubel officiating and Mr. Makovec giving his daughter in marriage. Mrs. William Mahoney was organist for the nuptials.

The bride, carrying an arrangement of red roses, wore for her wedding a gown of silk faced peau de soie styled with scoop neckline, empire waistline and A-line skirt featuring appliques of re-embroidered Alencon lace. Lace edge the chapel train, detachable at the waistline.

A queen's crown of lace and pearl, accented by crystal drops, held her bouffant veil of sheer illusion.

Miss Barbara Makovec, Owen, the maid of honor, and Mrs. Allan Christophersen, Withee, the bridesmaid, were seen in long green gowns of crepe and brocade styled with empire waists and Watteau panels at the back. Each held a single long stemmed rose.

Robert Erickson, Withee, was best man; Kenneth Carlsen, Withee, the groomsman; and Thomas Malmgren and Randy Fredrickson, the ushers.

The wedding reception was held at the bride's parental home and was followed by a wedding supper served at 4 p.m. in the Holy Rosary parish hall.

The bride, who has been employed in the John Cattanach law office at Owen, is a 1963 graduate of Owen-Withee High School, from which her husband was graduated two years earlier. He is employed by Badger Shooters Supply, Owen, where the newlyweds are residing.

Friends and relatives at the wedding were from Milwaukee, La Crosse, Wausau, Marshfield, Eau Claire, Stanley, Greenwood, from Minneapolis, Minn., Chicago, Ill. and Whiting, Ind.
