Olsen, Mr/Mrs. Andrew (Gold – 2 DEC 1965)

Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Olsen of route 2, Withee (Clark Co., Wis.), who were married Dec. 2, 1915 in Mankato, Minn., by Rev. C. Norgaard, observed the golden anniversary of that event on Thursday, Dec. 2.

The scene of festivities was the Nazareth Lutheran Hall, with Rev. Beryl Knudsen, pastor, being the speaker. Singing for the occasion was the children’s choir, the grandchildren, Miss Helga Andersen and Mrs. Eunice Knutsen. Mrs. Ellen Bower also played the accordion, and slides of the family and friends were shown.

Seventy guests were present for the turkey anniversary dinner. Open hous was held from 2 to 5 p.m.

The honored couple received many gifts. She had a corsage of yellow carnations and he a yellow carnation boutonniere.

Mr. Olsen was born in Fyn, Denmark, June 11, 1886, the son of Niels and Mette Olsen. He was educated in Denmark and at Grand View College in Iowa. He worked on the railroad and did farm work in Minnesota before he was married.

Mrs. Olsen, the former Larua Marie Nielsen, was born in Mors, Denmark, June 12, 1895, to Anna and Soren Nielsen. She received her education in Denmark and did housework in Minnesota before her marriage.

After their marriage they came directly to Withee, where they have farmed and resided since, their retirement taking place in 1959.

Both Mr. and Mrs. Olsen enjoy good health. He lists as his hobbies the caring of bees, fruit trees and fishing, while his wife has flowers and handiwork as her hobbies. They are members of the Danish Lutheran Church.

The anniversary couple are the parents of a son, Niels Alfred Olsen, Cutbank, Mont., and three daughters, Mrs. Harry (Ellen) Bower, Bellwood, Ill., Mrs. Harvey (Ida) Hamilton, Horn Lake, Miss., and Mrs. Loren (Lillian) Miller, Owen, all of whom were present along with their wives and husbands.

There are 12 grandchildren.

On the guests list from out of town were Mr. and Mrs. Martinus Nielsen, Madelia, Minn., a brother and sister-in-law of Mrs. Olsen; Chris Nielsen, Minneapolis, Minn., her brother; Milo Nielsen, St. Paul, Minn., a nephew; Mr. and Mrs. A. Stegeman, Melrose Park, Ill.; Niels Lisbjerg and son, Niels Nielsen, Durand, Ill.; Mrs. Anna Nielsen and son, Henry, Greenwood; Mrs. Ingeborg Anderson, Minneapolis, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Rollie Benedict, Loyal; and Miss Shirley Niemi, Milwaukee.
