Bauman, Gerald A. (15 MAY 1940 - 14 APR 2015)

Gerald A. Bauman, age 74, of Chippewa Falls, Town of Lafayette, passed away on Tuesday, April 14, 2015, at home under the care of St. Joseph’s Hospice.

He was born May 15, 1940, in Edgar, to Viola (Pilgrim) and Arnold Bauman. Gerald was baptized June 2, 1940, and confirmed June 6, 1954, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Township of Wein, Edgar. He grew up and attended school in Edgar.

On June 25, 1960, he married Dorothy Punke at Zion Lutheran Church in Stratford. They resided in Edgar where they farmed until moving to Mondovi in 1963 so Gerald could join his father in the construction business, Bauman Construction.

In 1966, they moved to the Lake Wissota area, near Chippewa Falls, where Gerald formed a partnership with his father. Following his father’s death in 1984, Gerald became sole proprietor of Bauman Construction until 2006, then partnering with his son until retiring in December 2012. Gerald greatly appreciated all of Bauman Construction’s many loyal customers over all those years, as well as the many loyal employees and associated businesses that helped serve those customers.

Gerald was an outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing whenever he could. His enjoyment of fishing started with the spring panfish run followed by annual trips to Canada with Dorothy, family, and friends. He enjoyed many Canadian fly-in fishing trips with his brothers, and was an accomplished sail fisherman off the coast of Mexico. Fall whitetail and wild turkey were his hunting expertise but made time for a successful elk hunt in Alberta, Canada, and even traveled to Africa for a “once in a life time” successful safari hunt.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, of Chippewa Falls; a daughter, Cheryl Bauman of Trevor; a son, Gerald A. Jr. (Jackie) of Chippewa Falls; two sisters, Shirley Lueschow of Cresco, Iowa, and Lois Meyer of Hartford; two brothers, Merle (Sharon) of Mesa, Ariz., and Ardell (Sharon) of Chetek; grandchildren, Shannon and Christopher Bauman; step-grandchildren, Casey (Hallie) Savall, Ty and Dylan Savall; step-great-grandchildren, Avery VanAllen, Henry Savall, Genevieve Knutson; and many treasured nieces and nephews; aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother-in-law, Kenneth Lueschow; and a nephew, Kent Lueschow.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, April 17, 2015, at the English Lutheran Church of Bateman, Town of Lafayette, with Rev. Deborah Nissen presiding. Burial will follow at Prairie View Cemetery, village of Lake Hallie.

Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m., Thursday at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel, Chippewa Falls, and one hour prior to the service Friday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Gerald’s honor may go to the English Lutheran Church of Bateman or Mayo Clinic Fibrosis Research Fund.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the St. Joseph’s Hospice team for their compassion and care shown to Gerald and to Pastor Deborah Nissen for her comforting visits and prayers.

Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel & Cremation Services, Chippewa Falls, is assisting the family.
