School merger defeated by vote

The Dor-Abby and Colby school districts voted down a joint county school committee order to dissolve the Dor-Abby district and attach it to the Colby district in the referendum Tuesday.

The total unofficial votes in the incorporated areas was 854 “no” votes and 534 “yes” votes.

The school committee order will now have no effect on either district, and both will continue to operate as they have in the past.

Voters in Abbotsford were decisive in their opposition with 498 opposing the action and 79 voting for it.
