Rogus, John Jr. (15 March 1932 - 3 June 2016)

John Rogus, Jr., age 84, of Gordon, WI, passed away on Friday, June 3, 2016, in Duluth, MN, surrounded by his loving family. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, June 27, 2016, at St. Bernard-St. Hedwig Catholic Church, in Thorp, with Rev. Janusz Kowalski officiating. Interment of ashes will follow in Old St. Hedwig’s Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church, on Monday, from 9:30 a.m. until time of service.

John was born on March 15, 1932, in Withee, WI, the son of John and Nellie (Szczech) Rogus. He was raised on a farm in the Town of Reseburg, rural Withee, later moving to Sheldon, WI and finally settling in Superior, WI, where he graduated from Cathedral High School in 1951. As a young man, John served in the National Guard, worked on the boats on Lake Superior, and worked for the railroad, before becoming a carpenter.

He is survived by four children: Scott Katzmark of Superior, WI, Cheryl Katzmark of Reno, NV, Michael Katzmark of Minong, WI, and Theresa Katzmark of Superior, WI; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one brother, George Rogus of Duluth, MN; two sisters: Dorothy (Frank) Knapp of Corinth, TX, Joan (Jerry) Podgorski of Boulder, CO; one sister-in-law, Francine Rogus of Mt. Prospect, IL; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: August and Leo Rogus; and one sister-in-law, Marge Rogus.

John will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
