Struensee, Daniel Stuart (30 July 1963 - 5 June 2016)

Daniel S. Struensee, 52, was pronounced dead at his home in the Town of Pine Valley, Sunday evening June 5, 2016. The primary cause of his death was myocardial infarction (heart attack) due to hypertension (high blood pressure).

Daniel Stuart Struensee was born July 30, 1963, in Neillsville Memorial Hospital, the fourth child of Dale Joseph and Barbara Ione (Krosinski) Struensee of the Town of Hewett. His parents were divorced in 1968, and for about two years he and his four siblings lived with foster parents, Dwight J. Balow (1892-1971) and Adelia L. (Ferguson) Balow (1900-1987) of the Town of Colby, rural Abbotsford, who had also been foster parents to their mother for a time.

By early June of 1971, Daniel and his four siblings returned to the farm in the Town of Hewett to live with their father, stepmother (Lois) and two step-brothers (Brian and Jeffrey). That fall, Daniel’s half-brother, Kevin, was born, and so it was that the “blended” family included a total of eight children who were raised together as one family.

It was on the farm in the Town of Hewett (later the Miatke farm) that Daniel lived until he left home, attending Neillsville area schools and helping on the farm. After leaving home, he worked for a time for Kurt Marg before going out west. He lived for many years in Colorado, having a home in the Woodland Park area, northwest of Colorado Springs. He worked at cutting and selling firewood. Like his father, he enjoyed working for himself cutting wood and also hunting. After leaving Colorado, he worked briefly in North Dakota. In about 2013, he returned to live in central Wisconsin, working at various jobs prior to his death.

Daniel was preceded in death by his mother, Barbara Krosinski (1941-1997); younger brother, Donald Struensee Sr. (1964-2009); and his father, Dale Struensee (1936-2012).

He is survived by three siblings, Sandy (Bill) High of Condon, OR; and Duane Struensee and Sarah Struensee, both of Black River Falls. He is further survived by a half-brother, Kevin (Susan) Struensee of Greenwood; step-mother, Lois Struensee of rural Neillsville; and two step-brothers: Brian (Sheri) Richtmyre of Ham Lake, MN, and Jeffrey (Kim) Richtmyre of Tumwater, WA.

At 9 a.m. Sunday, July 3, 2016, there will be an informal gathering at the Dells Dam Cemetery in the Town of Levis for the burial of Daniel’s ashes.
