The first basketball team in Greenwood was in 1906 when the above picture was
taken. In those days they used to push the sets out of the assembly room for
practice and played games in any hall available, and which was large enough to
play in.
Mr. Stanley who was principal of the school, started the team and coached it.
Shown here:
- Back row: Professor Stanley
- Second row, left to right: Al Haglund, Floyd Schneider, and Marion Hunt
- Front row, left to right: Don Hunt, Mose Zafpke, Harold Stabnow, Vern Varney
Note the uniforms with the heavy padding. In those days basketball was a very
rough game and players had to be well protected.
