Welcome Tyler Nelson (New Principle - 2016)
Welcome New Principle Tyler Nelson
As of this school year, Tyler Nelson will be taking over as our Elementary and
Middle School Principle. A native of Mondovi, Wisconsin, Mr. Nelson draws a lot
of comparisons between Thorp and his hometown. “I see a great amount of
community pride, as well as a tremendous amount of support from our students and
their education.”
Tyler Nelson graduated from Mondovi High School in 2002, and went on to college
at the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire. He graduated from Eau Claire in
2007, with a middle childhood through early adolescence degree, and a license to
teach grades 1-8. “I truly have enjoyed my years in education,” Tyler says, “and
I have had some wonderful opportunities. I taught second and third grade in the
Chippewa Falls Area Unified School District, and from there I had the
opportunity to return to my hometown where I taught fourth and fifth grade. It
was these opportunities that drove me to continue my education in Educational
Leadership through Viterbo University. I have had great experiences in
education, and I look forward to continuing this in our district.”
Mr. Nelson first decided he wanted to teach after working as a youth football
coach while he was in college. “It was so rewarding to see the day-to-day growth
while working with children, and that is when I decided to change my major to
Education.”
Outside of school, Mr. Nelson likes to spend time with his wife, Ashley, a
dental hygienist in Bloomer, and their two-year-old daugher, Ava. He also enjoys
hunting, golf, the lake, and all of Wisconsin sports teams, especially the
Packers, Badgers, and Brewers. On top of that, he works as an official for high
school sports.
When asked if he had anything to say to the people of Thorp, Tyler responded as
follows: “I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who I have had the
opportunity to meet up to this point, including community members, and our
school staff. Everyone has been so kind and welcoming. This has made the
transition go so well and I am really excited to get to work with our staff and
this community - thank you!”
