Michlig, Myron "Mick" (21 JUN 1935 - 23 APR 2015)

Myron "Mick" Michlig, 79, Wausau, died Thursday, April 23, 2015 after a courageous journey with Alzheimer's at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.

He was born June 21, 1935 in the town of Cassel, son of the late Alex and Dorothy (Koppa) Michlig. Myron attended St. Michael Catholic School and graduated from Wausau High School.

He met Carol Tranetzki at Colonial Ballroom during a dance. On their first date he locked his keys in the car and had to break the windshield and on July 18, 1959 they were married at the Church of St. Anne, Wausau.

Myron worked for the former Canteen Company which became GB Vending. He served his country in the United States Army from 1954 until 1956 serving in Germany. He served as a greeter at the 4:00 p.m. Mass at the Church of St. Anne and volunteered annually for their Polka Fest. For over 35 years he spent summer weekends at Campers Haven with his family. In his younger years, he tried out for the Cincinnati Reds and was an avid sports fan, cheering on the Packers and Brewers. He enjoyed bowling, golfing and fishing on Lake Nokomis with his buddies. Myron loved animals especially Tucker the cat and his grand dogs, Taylor and Casey.

Survivors include his wife, Carol, Wausau; son, Mark Michlig, Wausau; daughter, Sara (Dave) Helmer, Wausau; brothers, Ronnie (Mary) Michlig, Allen (Janet) Michlig and Delmar (Phyllis) Michlig, all of Wausau; sister-in-law, Connie Michlig, Wausau; brother-in-law, Cliff Cebula, Hatley.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Bob and LaVerne and a sister, Sharon.

The funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 27, 2015 at the Church of St. Anne, Wausau. Rev. Matthew Marshall will preside. Friends may call Sunday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau and again on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at the church. Entombment will be in Memorial Chapel Mausoleum, Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau.

The family wishes to extend their sincere appreciation to the nurses and staff at Cedar Ridge Elder Services and the doctors, nurses and staff at Aspirus Wausau Hospital for the compassionate care given to Myron. Also a special thank you to Christy and Nancy of Community Care Connections of Wisconsin.
