Thurs, Delwin W. (19 JUN 1940 - 7 MAR 2005)

Delwin W. Thurs, 64, Athens, died suddenly Monday, March 7, 2005 while working in the woods.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 10, 2005 at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Athens. Rev. Linda Dutton will officiate. Burial will be in Athens Village Cemetery.

Friends may call on Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and again from 10:00 a.m. Thursday until the time of services at the Athens funeral home.

He was born June 19, 1940 in the town of Hamburg, son of the late Walter and Hilma (Hardt) Thurs. On May 17, 1969, he married Judy Kurtzweil at St. John Catholic Church, Edgar. She survives.

Delwin was a foreman for Michels Pipeline in Brownsville until his retirement in 2004. He enjoyed watching and going to NASCAR races and was an avid Dale Earnhardt, Jr. fan. Besides deer hunting, he enjoyed fishing with his brother, Ron. Delwin’s passion was being in the woods and he was well known for his woodpiles. He was very proud of his family and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, who he would do anything for.

Survivors include his wife, Judy Thurs, Athens; one daughter Michelle (Scott) Walters, Athens, one son Todd (Patti) Thurs, Athens; five grandchildren; Kyle and Jordan Walters, Autumn, Ryan, and Sawyer Thurs, one sister Sherry (Skip) Gayken, Weston, one brother Ronald (JeanAnn) Thurs, Athens.
