Fischer, Martha E. “Tudie” (Schultz) (25 DEC 1914 - 27 JAN 2017)

Martha E. “Tudie” Fischer, Age 102, of Colby, passed away on Friday, January 27, 2017, at Golden Living Center-Continental Manor in Abbotsford.

Her funeral service will be held at 11AM on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at Zion Lutheran Church in Colby. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.

A time of visitation will be held from 6pm until 8pm on Friday, February 3, 2017 at Zion Lutheran Church in Colby and again on Saturday at the church from 9:30am until the time of services. A VFW Axillary Service will be held at 7PM on Friday at the church conducted by the Colby VFW Axillary 2227.

The honor of pallbearers belongs to Valgene Fischer Jr., Mark Fischer, Dennis Schultz, William Heindl, Timothy Heindl and Keith Zygowciz. Honorary pallbearers are Ambrose Schuh, Elaine Schuh, Christine Derfus, Elaine Degenhardt and Sondra Strickert.

Tudie was born on December 25, 1914 the daughter of George and Emma (Ulrich) Schultz in the Town of Holton. She was baptized on January 2, 1915 and confirmed on July 6, 1930 at Christ Lutheran Church in Abbotsford. She attended country school until the seventh grade at the Pickard School Town of Holton.

On May 25, 1933 Tudie was united in marriage to Carl Fischer. They celebrated 64 years of marriage before his passing on August 23, 1997. Tudie and Carl raised four children along with the seven Rannow children whom Tudie babysat and also considers her own.

She held various positions for employment until her retirement in 1977. Tudie enjoyed dancing, Polka music which even got her feet going while sitting, traveling to all 50 states, sewing, reading, word search puzzles and listening to the radio. Tudie handcrafted over 1,492 quilts for missions and many more for all of her family. She was a member of Zion Lutheran church in Colby and a member of the 2227 Colby VFW Axillary.

Survivors include her four children Valgene (Marie) Fischer of Colby, Patsy Lang of San Jacinto, CA, Janice Heindl of Colby and Bonnie (Jerry) Zypowicz of Colby. Tudie is further survived by 14 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren and 23 great-great grandchildren; along with many other nieces, nephews and cousins.

Tudie was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her brothers Clarence, Wallace and Clyde and her sisters Lorna, Lydia, Lucille, Juanita, Myrtle, Carmen and Terry; her son-in-law James Heindl and her niece Dorothy.

Arrangements are under the care of Life Tributes Funeral Home-Spencer.
