Thiel, Mildred Wilhelmina Lorna (Reinke) (20 APR 1917 - 15 FEB 2017)

Mildred Wilhelmina Lorna Thiel, 99, of Wausau, passed away on Wednesday, February 15, 2017, at Wausau Manor under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services.

She was born on April 20, 1917 in the town of Berlin to the late Hugo and Anna (Hoff) Reinke. Mildred attended Trinity Lutheran School and graduated from Wausau High School. She was united in marriage to Harold Thiel, her high school sweetheart, on June 29, 1938 at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, Naugart. They were married for 73 years.

Mildred loved and cared for her family as a homemaker, and she also extended care to many patients through her work as a CNA for over 30 years. She enjoyed cooking, baking, embroidery, and traveling with Harold. Mildred and Harold were founding members of Christ Lutheran Church where she was an active member as a part of the Ladies' Guild.

Her open door and warm conversation around the kitchen table will be missed.

Survivors include children, Joyce Lunkos of Mosinee, Gary (Tracy) Thiel of Milwaukee, Sharon (Gene) Bartelt of Athens, and Russell Thiel of Wausau; 14 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; son-in-law, Larry Lorbiecki; and other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; daughter, Diane Lorbiecki; parents, Hugo and Anna; great-grandson, Justin Schroepfer; sister, Bette Reinke; and son-in-law, Ed Lunkos.

A funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 22, 2017, at Christ Lutheran Church, 1300 Townline Road, Wausau, with Rev. David Wetmore and Rev. Rick Kelm officiating. Family and friends may call beginning at 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park, town of Texas.
