Luepke, Irene S. (Peterson) (10 DEC 1917 - 18 JAN 2018)

Irene S. Luepke, Age 100, of Spencer, passed away with her family by her side, on Thursday, January 18, 2018 in the Palliative Care Unit at the Marshfield Medical Center.

Her Funeral service will be held at 6PM on Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Spencer. Rev. David M. DePaoli will officiate. Burial will take place in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in the Town of Brighton. Family and friends are invited to gather Tuesday at the church in Spencer from 4PM until the time of service. The honor of pall bearer belongs to her nine grandchildren.

Irene was born on December 10, 1917 in the town of Spencer, the daughter of Nels and Susie (Smith) Peterson. She attended Sawyer school and graduated from Spencer high school in May 1935. She was united in marriage to Vilas Luepke on June 11, 1938. Together they farmed in the township of Brighton from 1939 until selling the farm in 1969 and moving to Spencer. Her employment included working at the Pathfinder and Dickman homes until their closing, St. Joseph’s hospital from 1974 until 1983 and at Figi’s seasonally from 1988 until 2006.

She was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran church where she was baptized, confirmed, married and later joined the Ladies Aid in 1939. Irene enjoyed traveling, fishing, playing cards, crocheting and volunteering. Most of all she loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Irene will be greatly missed by her three children: Marjorie Wendt-Bue of Marshfield, Bruce (Janine) Luepke of Spencer and Glen (DeAnn) Luepke of Spencer; her 10 grandchildren; 7 step-grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; 4 step-great grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren, along with many other nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents Nels and Susie Peterson; her husband Vilas, her brothers: Elmer and George Peterson; her sister Evelyn Nigl and her sons-in-law Armin Wendt Jr. and Richard “Dick” Bue.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated in Irene’s name to Trinity Lutheran Church, the Ladies Guild or the Lutheran Hour.

Her arrangements are under the care of Life Tributes Funeral Home-Spencer.
