Achterberg, Lois M. (Voigt) (18 OCT 1937 - 26 JUN 2008)

Lois M. Achterberg, 70, Athens, died Thursday, June 26, 2008 at Colonial Manor Medical and Rehabilitation Center, Wausau.

She was born October 18, 1937, in Hamburg, daughter of the late Arnold and Herta (Plisch) Voigt. On August 31, 1957 she married William Achterberg at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Little Chicago. He survives.

Lois was employed for many years at Weinbrenner Shoe Company in Merrill as well as being a farm wife and homemaker. She played organ at St. Paul Lutheran Church for many years and also played organ for several other area churches. She enjoyed cooking, baking and most of all spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, William Achterberg, Athens; children, Jane (Eugene) Westfall, Hamburg, Scott (Lauri) Achterberg, Wausau, Jay Achterberg, Hamburg, Paul (Tina) Achterberg, Stratford and Thomas (Amy) Achterberg, Merrill; eleven grandchildren, David, Joseph, Adam, Shawn, Bridget, Ryan, David, Peter, Brandon, Kateri and Kasie; two great-granchildren, Zoey and Justin; siblings, Lola (Howard) Schmidt, Wittenberg, Delores (Les) Scheu, Merrill, Doris Stauss, Merrill, Marion (Wally) Healhke, Wausau, Lorraine (Leroy) Rusch, Wausau, Mae (Vernon) Mathwich, Hamburg, Don (Norma) Voigt, Wausau and Carl (Joyce) Voigt, Hamburg.

Besides her parents she was preceded in death by a grandson, Andrew, two brothers, Edward and Earl Voigt and an infant sister, Renalda.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, June 30, 2008 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Hamburg. Rev. Joel Danner will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call Sunday from 1-4 p.m. at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 312 Caroline Street, Athens, and again on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of services at the church.
