White, Donald Charles (1937? - 29 OCT 2018)
Donald Charles White, 81, of Cornell, passed away on Monday, Oct. 29, 2018 after
a year-long battle with cancer.
Don was born in Thorp to Emory and Dorothy (Manier) White. He grew up in the
Stanley and Holcombe areas with 12 siblings. He enlisted in the Navy when he was
18 and loved talking about his time on the USS Benner and USS Columbus.
Don married Geraldine Pahl on Nov. 13, 1957. They had two sons, William and
Tony. After the Navy, Don and his family lived in Germantown where he worked at
a factory called the Controls Company. He moved the family to the Sheldon area
in 1970. He worked in Stanley as well as at the Papermill and Fireproof in
Cornell. He then moved on to work at Weather Shield in Ladysmith until his
retirement in 1998.
After retirement, he and Geraldine enjoyed traveling with his brother, Fred
(Fritz) and wife, Ada to many destinations around the country. He always stated
after the long car rides that he’d never go for another ride with his crazy
driver brother, yet it wouldn’t be long, and they’d be off on yet another
adventure! He also loved going to the casino.
Don is survived by his wife, Geraldine; his sons, Bill (Patty) White and Tony
(Peggy) White. He is also survived by his brothers, Fritz, Eddy and Russel and
his sisters, Myrtle, JoAnne, Ruby, Ali, Patsy, Jenny, Judy, and Debbie. He is
further survived by his grandchildren, Nathan (Heather), Billy (Shelly), Joshua
(Sara), Heather, Jake (Mariah), Nicole and Ashley (Brett) and by 16
great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Bud.
Donald requested no services.
There will be a burial of ashes at the Cornell Cemetery at a later date.
