Spiegel, Debbie Lea (22 March 1964 – 29 March 2019)

Debbie Spiegel, age 55, of Neillsville, died, unexpectedly, Friday, March 29, 2019 at her home.

Debbie Lea DeMert was born on March 22, 1964 in Neillsville, the daughter of Robert “Buck” and Beverly “George” (Frei) DeMert. She graduated from Neillsville High School in 1982 and then attended Mid-State Technical College in Wisconsin Rapids. Debbie fulfilled her course-work and was certified as a beautician. She worked as a hair-stylist, for many years, at The Carousel in Loyal. On May 11, 1985 she was united in marriage to Jim Spiegel in Neillsville. As Jim formed his own construction company, Debbie’s career went from hair-stylist to painter. Over the past several years she has done many staining and painting jobs, not only for herself, but for many families in the area.

Debbie loved her son Dylan and was excited to become a first-time grandmother in the next few months. She loved animals especially her labs, Jake and Jessie and her cat, Boomer. Her biggest passion in life was shooting pool and being with her “pool-girl family”. Debbie was a hard-worker, who always stayed busy. She liked doing projects on her house and keeping her yard beautiful. She will be deeply missed by all her knew her.

She is survived by her son, Dylan (Holly Opelt) Spiegel, and their soon-to-be expected daughter, of Eau Claire. Her mother, “George” (Jim) Raine of Neillsville, three siblings, Cindy (Randy) Butts of Neillsville, Kay (Marshall) Hayes of La Crosse, and Kevin (Kelly) DeMert of Farnham, NY, four nephews, Adam Brorson and his children, Zoe & Gia, Kevin DeMert Jr. and his child, Kinsley, Collin DeMert and Josh (Heidi) Butts and their child, Jaycee. Debbie is further survived by her mother-in-law, Gerrie Schultz of Neillsville, a brother-in-law, Tom Spiegel of Neillsville, and an aunt, Mary Jane Frei of Neillsville.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim in 2011, her father, “Buck” DeMert in 2005, a brother, Jeff DeMert in 2017 and her father-in-law, Gabby Schultz.

Relatives and friends may call on the family from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 2, 2019 at the Gesche Funeral Home in Neillsville. Following the visitation at the funeral home, a Celebration of Debbie’s Life will be held at the Green Lantern Tavern in downtown Neillsville.

Online Condolences may be made at www.geschefh.com.  Gesche Funeral Home and Cremation Service is assisting Debbie’s family with Funeral arrangements.
