Gerhardt, Arman (7 Oct 1904 – 28 Feb 1976)
At 11 o’clock Tuesday forenoon funeral services for Arman (Stub) Gerhardt, 71,
Owen, were conducted from St. John’s Lutheran Church, Withee. The Rev. Douglas
R. Groenewold, parish pastor, was in charge of the sevice, with burial being
made at Neillsville.
Pallbearers were John Bacon, Carl Riber, Harold Parker, Gary Lund, Martin
Carlson, Carl Riber, Harold Parker, Gary Lund, Martin Carlson, Owen; and Dan
Stengel, Greenwood.
Word of his death Saturday night was a surprise and shock to Stub’s many friends
and family. He had been up and about daily, but complained of chest pains
Saturday, and that evening his wife called Gary Lund, asking him to drive them
to the Colby Clinic. The two couple were enroute to the Clinic when he slumped
back in the car seat while traveling along Highway 29, just east of Curtiss
corners. He was pronounced dead upon arrival at the Clinic of an apparent heart
attack.
The deceased was born October 7, 1904 in the Town of Weston, Clark County. He
attended Christie area school and moved to Neillsville when he was 21 years of
age. On April 29, 1933 he married the former Evelyn Gall at Neillsville. The
couple moved to Owen in 1940, where he opened a dray line and fuel business
until he sold it out 10 years later. At that time he became associated with O &
N Lumber Company, and later UBC, now known as Lund Building Supply.
“Stub”, as he was known to his many friends and acquaintances, was a devout
athlete and sports fan. He is well remembered here for his exploits on the
mound, having pitched both for and against Owen as a member of the Neillsville
baseball club, and in later years with the famed Kidds Kids. He, too, enjoyed
fishing as a recreation.
Mourning his passing ae his wife, Evelyn, Owen; a son, Stuart, Portage; a
brother, Bert Gerhardt, Milwaukee; four sisters, Mrs. Florence Asplin,
Fairchild, Mrs. Melvin (Inez) Jung, Jefferson, Mrs. Walter (Fredia) Zank,
Fairchild, and Miss Arlene Gerhardt, Hatfield, and two grandchildren.
Preceding him in death was a brother.
The family suggests that memorials be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church,
Withee.
