Gumz, Herman A. (23 Feb 1902 – 18 Mar 1972)
Funeral services for Herman A. Gumz, 79, of Abbotsford, were held Tuesday, March
21, 1972 at Peace United Church of Christ, Dorchester, with the Rev. Milton
Petzold officiating. Burial will be in Dorchester Memorial Cemetery. Maurina
Funeral Home is in charge. Mr. Gumz died Saturday at noon at St. Joseph’s
Hospital in Marshfield.
He was born February 23, 1902 in the Town of Holton, and received his education
in the rural school there. He was married to Martha Blasel on June 17, 1931 at
Peace Church. Following their marriage they farm in the Town fo Holton until
1958, when their son Herbert took over the farm and they moved to a new home in
Abbotsford.
Mrs. Gumz served as Constable in the Town of Holton for a number of years, and
was a member of Peace Church.
He is survived by his widow; two sons, Lester Gumz, Chicago, Ill., and Heber,
Town of Holton; two daughters, Mrs. Donald (Janet) Fink and Mrs. James (Doris)
Apfelbeck, both of Colby; two brothers, Charles Gumz and Otto Gumz, both of
Dorchester, and 13 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter,
three brothers and two sisters.
Pallbearers were all nephews of Mrs. Gumz, Alfred, Eugene, Leonard, William,
Raymond and Harold Gumz.
