Legacy Stone Ceremony Held Saturday

The Wausau HOG Chapter honored all veterans by placing a Legacy Stone at The Highground Saturday, May 15.  Legacy Stone ceremonies will be held each month through October. (Contributed Photo)

A Legacy Stone Placement Ceremony took place at The Highground, Saturday, May 15, 2010.  The weather was perfect; the setting was perfect.  The families shared stories; hearts were touched.

Stones placed May 15 included honors for some who are gone, some who are still here and one stone by a group honoring all veterans; these stones area a lasting tribute to honor the veteran, non-veteran or organization.

Combined with The Highground’s registry books, it makes or a true legacy to the honoree.  Stones can be given as gifts, a surprise or picked by the honoree themselves.  The Highground will help make it a memorable occasion for all involved.

Following the placements of stones, the group forms a single-file circle around the plaza, named the Talking Circle.  Once the Talking Circle is formed, the 2003 Promise was fulfilled.

In 2003, The Highground made a pledge soon after the Iraq War started it would not let those from Wisconsin, who died in this war, go in silence.  During all events at The Highground, names were read and the replica Liberty Bell was rung for all who died from Wisconsin in Iraq and Afghanistan.

After the names were read and the bell tolled, a microphone was passed to each individual; everyone was invited to share what they were feeling.

The Highground holds a special place for everyone and is shared with all.  One honoree requested the song “America the Beautiful” be sung.  Handing him the microphone, Lt. Col. Victory Bast led everyone in a wonderful rendition of the perfect song.  Thank you veterans for serving; America is truly beautiful.

Stone Placement Ceremonies are scheduled each month through October.  Spots are filling up, so call early to reserve the date wanted.  Call The Highground at 715-743-4224 for more information.
