REGIMENTAL HISTORY

FORTY-FIFTH INFANTRY
The Forty-fifth Infantry Regiment was organized at Camp Sigel, Milwaukee, WI, and was sent forward by companies to Nashville, TN, in the latter part of 1864 and the early part of 1865. A portion of the regiment held a position in the trenches near Ft. Negley during the battle of Nashville, December 14-16, 1864, where the regiment was stationed until it was mustered out of the service of the United States on the 17th of July, 1865. The Forty-fifth returned to Madison on July 23rd and was shortly thereafter disbanded.

Attached to Post of Nashville, Tenn., Dept. of the Cumberland, to February, 1865. 2nd Brigade, 4th Division, 20th Army Corps, Dept. of the Cumberland, to March, 1865. Post of Nashville, Dept. of the Cumberland, to July, 1865.

SERVICE.--Garrison and guard duty at Nashville until July, 1865. Battle of Nashville December 15-16. Mustered out July 17, 1865.

The certificates of service were got up in substantial style on parchment paper, and form an honorable acknowledgment of the services performed by the officers and men of these regiments.
These certificates were distributed through the office of the Adjutant General of Wisconsin.
