Gunnery Sergeant Douglas Mederos and his wife Barbara Verkuilen, a Thorp alumnus from the class of 1995, were invited to the White House to meet the President in the Oval Office.

Doug has completed his assignment with the HMX-1 team, the sole helicopter transport squadron (Marine 1) for the President of the United States.  President George Bush met with the couple and thanked Doug for his service.

Doug and Barb have recently moved from Staford, VA to Jacksonville, NC.
