It’s National Library Week April 13 – 19, 2008 and a time to
acknowledge the contributions of libraries, librarians and library
workers in schools, campuses and communities nationwide – and the
perfect time to discover how you can join the circle of knowledge at
your library.
The Thorp Public Library is celebrating National Library Week by hosting
a wide variety of activities all week long including food for fines,
book sale, and coloring contest.
Tuesday was Volunteer Recognition & National Library Workers’ Day. Thank
you to our volunteers & library workers! Library Board Members
are: Pat Koltis; Sylvia Cieslek; Marla Senn; Diana Coffey (school rep.);
Rich Wnek (City Council Rep.); Nancy Anderson, Secretary; and Michele
Pogodzinski, President. Library workers are: Theresa Bielecki,
Maureen Welgos, Michelle Olejniczak, Thorp City Crew, April Gentz, and
Julie Beloungy.
Wednesday, April 16th: 7-8 p.m. Night-time PJ Party: Come in “jammies”
to play games, read books, and make a bedtime snack. Everyone is
welcome!
Thursday, April 17th: Balloons for the young and young-at-heart.
Friday, April 18th: BAGS FOR BORROWERS! Check out three or more
library materials and get a beautiful bag to use again and again at the
library.
Saturday, April 19th: Join us for morning donuts and coffee.
“Everyday, libraries in big cities and small towns, in schools and
universities, help transform their communities,” says Julie Beloungy,
Director “At our library, people of all backgrounds can come together
for community meetings, children’s activities, to do research, to get a
job, to find homework help or to just relax.”
First sponsored in 1958, National Library Week is a national observance
sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries across
the country each April.
The library now has Key Cards – Library cards that attach to your key
ring! If you already have a card there will be a $2.00 fee, and
for those signing up for new cards, there is the choice of either the
standard card or the key card at no cost. Please remember that the
library now requires everyone to have their library card with them in
order to checkout library materials. Thank you!
New to the library will be a scanner for public use! The Clark
County, WI Internet Library Project
http://www.wiclarkcountyhistory.org/
has been extremely generous with their donation of a scanner to the
library that the entire community can utilize. The library would
also like to thank McDonald’s and Kari’s Koffee for their donations and
support of National Library Week.
