On November 2 and 3, high School Principal Brad Ceranski and Language instructor Cindy Campbell traveled to Washington D. C. to accept a National Blue Ribbon School Award, participate in panel discussions about the nation’s educational concerns, and listen to presentations from past winners.

Three hundred twenty-one schools from across the country were honored at the awards ceremony, including eight schools in Wisconsin, three of which were high schools.  The award was granted to Thorp High School for its student academic achievement, specifically the attainment of the top 10 percent of Wisconsin’s tests or nationally normed tests.

“This is a tremendous honor for the community, the parents and the students” said Ceranski.  “The students deserve the credit.  It was their performance that won this award.”

The school was awarded a plaque that will be hung up in the high school, along with a flag that will be erected soon.

The National Blue Ribbon Award is an esteemed honor that only goes to a select few, only citing just over 300 out of 133,000 total K-12 schools per year.  “Being named a National Blue Ribbon School is an honor few schools achieve,” State Superintendent Tony Evers commented.  “These schools are an inspiration as we look for strategies to ensure every child graduates with the skills needed for employment or further education.”
