In 2005 Governor Doyle declared February, Library Lover’s Month and the Thorp Library is celebrating. Here are some ways you can be a part of your community library program.

1. Contributing your time, money and expertise as a volunteer, board member or advocate.

2. Subscribe to your favorite magazine for your library. This will increase the magazines available while helping the environment and the community around you.

3. Purchase a book for the library in a relative or friend’s name or donate your unwanted books. You will clear out your bookshelves for future purchases while simultaneously increasing the variety available for checkout.

4. Donate a charitable gift to the library and see if your workplace will match the funds.

5. Remember the Thorp Library in your estate planning. Planned thoughtful gifts such as these are needed as well as greatly appreciated.

6. Be a friend to the library by adopting a shelf and volunteering a little time to keep it straightened and neat.

7. Volunteer your time to deliver books to shut-ins, help children with their homework or becoming a “Grandparent” reader to a pre-school child.

These are just a few ways that you can get involved with your library.

Mary Hebda would love to help you find the right program to fit your needs. She can be reached at the Thorp Library at 669-5953 or visit the website at ThorpPL@wvls.lib.wi.us . Some of you may have only a few minutes a week to water plants and straighten a shelf or two. Others may have more time available to help. Time is such a valuable resource for all of us and many times it is difficult to find the time to add even one more thing to your schedule, but by helping your library, you help your community. That is an investment opportunity you cannot afford to miss out on.
