100 Years Ago (1906)

Northeast Part of the Town of Withee—The Town of Withee voted the sum of $900 for building roads and also voted to build three iron bridges.—Anton Strick has placed a new shingle saw in his mill.

Stanley Sunbeams—The big saw mill of the N W L Co, is running night and day.

Stanis Stszok is erecting a building on Mike Zaborowski’s residence lot to be used as a photography gallery.

Nick Baldeschwiler of the Town of Worden has been appointed local agent for the Chippewa Falls Sugar Co. and he is circulating among the farmers having old contracts and soliciting new ones.

Friday, May 4th, has been designated as Arbor Day.

75 Years Ago (1931)

The Thorp Finance Corporation and Peter Stezeszynski began the erection of a brick and tile one-story building on the lot located between the Boehm Meat Market and the Steszeszynski store building.

Performances will be given April 19 and 20 at the Thorp Opera House. The stage has rarely harbored a funnier farce than “I Tell You by Heck.”

50 Years Ago (1956)

Joseph Tobola, newly elected Mayor of Thorp, was congratulated by Congressman Lester Johnson at a noon banquet of the Clark County Democratic Party held at the Merchants Hotel in Neillsville.

W. W. Dallman, Greenwood, manager of the Clark County Electric Cooperative, was elected vice-president of the Wisconsin Electric Cooperative at its 20th anniversary meeting at Madison.

Alex Badzinski was elected as Governor of Thorp Moose Lodge No. 680.

Dr. R. H. Stuesser reported that a calf weighing 172 pounds was born dead at the Gilbert Voelker farm, Thorp.

25 Years Ago (1981)

Incumbent Laverne Neisius and Roger Klanderman, a Thorp pharmacist, were elected to fill two three-year terms on the Thorp Board of Education in Tuesday’s general election.

Justin Rosemeyer, Thorp council president, was re-elected to the council for his fourth term defeating David Burke.

Becky Hoffman, Kandi Syryczuk, and Heidi Hoffman joined the Thorp High golf team this season, making it a co-ed team.

The Thorp basketball team entered in the Chippewa Falls Underclassmen Tournament over the weekend came home with second place honors in the meet. By advancing as far as the finals, Thorp became the first team outside of Chippewa Falls to finish in the top five.

The three proud winners of Cub Pack 27 Pinewood Derby in order of finish are Kevin Dallas, Nathan Hansen and Chris Voelker.

10 Years Ago (1996)

Plans are underway for a Veterans War Memorial Park honoring Veterans of all wars. The location of the Memorial park is on Hwy 73 on the corner of S. Washington and Prospect Street.

The United States Achievement Academy has announced that Alisa Lew, daughter of Michael and Robin Rubisch of Thorp, has been named a United States National Award winner in English.

The men and women of he Thorp High School Forensics Team that have qualified to go to the state competition held at Madison are: Julie Hamel, Laura Baures, Kelli Klapatauskas, Emily Wacher, Sheri Haas, Kariann Pajak, Matt Hein, Sana Grajkowski, Bridgette Baures, Deanna Erickson, Kristin Goodman and Shilo Stigen.
