100 Years Ago (1906)

Reseburg Ramblings—Mail carrier Vangorder is making his rounds on horseback as the roads are impassible for his mail wagon.

Northeast part of the Town of Withee—Klemens Haraburda is preparing material for building a large barn with stone basement 40x80.

Stanislaw Isedorek and family recently removed here from Chippewa Falls and now occupy the second floor of the V. Isedorek building. Mr. Isedorek is a shoemaker by trade and has opened a shoe store and repair shop in the lower east end of the building.

75 Years Ago (1931)

The local fire company was called out at 5 o’clock on Wednesday morning by an alarm and found that a shed adjoining the Anton Maslowski blacksmith shop blazing away. The fire had evidently been burning for a long time before being discovered.

Wolter’s Corners—Farmers in this vicinity are commencing to work on the land and if the good weather continues, seeding will soon be done.

Pineland Corners—R. Butterfield finished sawing lumber for F. Konieczny and has moved his mill to the M. Kujala farm.

By decision of the judges, Dorothy Glasshoff, senior speaker, was given first place in the high school gym Monday night, and with Stanley Chudy, will represent Thorp High School at the League Forensic meet in Withee.

Sweet cream butter, per pound 28¢ Canada Dry Ginger Ale, per bottle 16¢ Mazola Oil, pint cans 29¢.

50 Years Ago (1956)

Estelle Wargolet has entered the 1956 regional Alice in Dairyland princess contest to be held at Medford April 28.

Two Thorp soldiers, Pvt. Richard M. Malecki and Pvt. Albert L. Wink Jr., are receiving basic combat training with the 8th Infantry Division at Fort Carson, Colorado.

Julia Muenich, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Muenich of Thorp, is a second year member of the Stout Symphonic Singers and will appear with the group singing second alto.

25 Years Ago (1981)

Construction of the new Thorp Production Credit Association building near the high school began a couple of weeks ago, and is scheduled to open in late November.

Eric Salander, former Thorpite, will be running in the Boston Marathon, Boston, MA on April 20. Mary Janicki, daughter-in-law of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Janicki of Thorp has also been accepted to run in this year’s Boston Marathon.

Dave Baehr and Scott Koltis are the only seniors on the Thorp boys’ track team this season.

At the 12th annual “Superbowl of Business Skills” Russell Butek placed first in business math; Margaret Jaskot placed second in business spelling and Rhonda Gerrits, placed fourth in beginning typing.

10 Years Ago (1996)

Lion Tom Smasal, Lion Francis Conway and Lion Rich Boie were honored with the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award for generosity above and beyond expectations.

The upgrading of Wisconsin Highway 29 in Clark County will continue this spring as part of a $2,224,221 contract signed recently by Governor Tommy Thomson.

Fourteen members of the Thorp, FBLA Chapter will attend the FBLA State Leadership Conference in Green Bay, April 25-27, 1996.

Gary Schauer, Thorp, is being honored by the American Family Insurance Group for being among a select group of agents who distinguished themselves throughout the year with outstanding sales production.
