100 Years Ago (1906)

Liveryman Al Morrison has recently added several fine horses to his livery equipment. Mr. Morrison has certainly an up-to-date establishment, and he is constantly on the lookout for improvements in the livery line.

Strawberries arriving every day, fresh and fine, 10¢ per box at Snyder’s

Memorial Day exercises will be held as usual under the auspices of the G. A. R. Post.

Herman Friess sold his meat market business, including his slaughterhouse, to W. P. Weisbrod of Amherst.

John Beckman is erecting a barn 40x108 feet in size on his farm in the Town of Worden.

Contractor P. Finnegan and crew of carpenters have Anton Micke’s new residence in the Town of Worden about ready for the bricklayers.

Reseburg Ramblings—The Reseburg School is closed this week on account of scarlet fever.

75 Years Ago (1931)

The Plymouth Sedan contest being put on by the Thorp Hardware Co. has interested over 100 women and girls of Clark, Taylor, and Chippewa Counties.

Roger Creek and Town Line—The Tri-County baseball League has been organized and a schedule of games arranged for. The league consists of clubs from Eidsvold, Stanley, Riverside, Wilson, Ludington and Crescent. John Pawlak is president and Everett Starks secretary.

W. H. Krause of Thorp and John Wuethrich of Greenwood were elected to represent Clark County at the annual convention of the Holstein-Fresian Association of America to be held at Syracuse, NY on June 3rd.

50 Tears Ago (1956)

A Stanley High School senior who would have graduated tonight was instantly killed when his car rolled over him early Sunday. James P. Kyle, 17, son of Mr. and Mrs. Emmett Kyle, became the 11th traffic victim of 1956 in Chippewa County.

Senator Alexander Wiley will give the main address when the Thorp Methodist Church observes their 75th Anniversary at appropriate ceremonies.

Eugene Wilhelm, Thorp High School Senior, received a 1st award at the State Music Festival held in Madison, May 12th.

Kenneth Eckstrom, 27, farm operator in the Town of Jump River, north of Gilman, was found dead in his barn by an unidentified milk hauler.

25 Years Ago (1981)

Because of the great response of the people at the March Fireman’s Ball, the Thorp Fire Department decided to donate $500 to the city for the purpose of a new pumper and $500 to the Thorp Area Ambulance District upon the purchase of a new ambulance.

Thorp High School will graduate yet another class tomorrow evening, May 22, in the high school gymnasium. Eighty-two graduates will participate in the ceremony.

10 Years Ago (1996)

Lioness Colene Stuttgen recently received a Melvin Jones Fellowship at the District Honor Night held in Stevens Point.

Pat (Sauer) Raven fulfilled her childhood dream of operating and owning a beauty salon. Town and Country Salon, which Pat built and officially opened on April 5, 1976, celebrated its 20th anniversary.
