100 Years Ago (1906)

Nye, Lusk & Hudson Co. is building a new lumber shed 30x100 feet in size. Thos Dygart and Geo. Schmidt are doing the work.

School principal John L Dahl has secured a similar position at Shell Lake for the next school year with a substantial increase in salary. Miss Alida Benson, assistant, will be similarly employed at Glenwood the ensuing year, and Miss Lelia Dillon will teach in her home schools at Mondovi.

Mail carrier H. F. Vangorder now appears in the regulation suit of gray and brass buttons.

Reseburg Ramblings—A fire caught in the slab pile on Friday last and also threatened the mill of Goff Bros. but with their wide-awake crew it was saved. Work will be resumed this week.

75 Years Ago (1931)

The ever active and progressive members of St. Bernard’s Catholic Congregation of this village are about to erect another building.

Rialto Theatre: “Dance Fool, Dance” “Meet the Wife” “Millie” and “A Tailor Made Man.”

At a meeting held at the public library the following officers of the library board were elected: Mrs. L. P. Walsdorf, President; L. J. Snyder, Vice President; John E. Geiger, Secretary-Treasurer.

Dill pickles, per quart jar 23¢ Bohemian malt, 3 cans $1.00; Colby style cheese, 15¢ per lb.

50 Years Ago (1956)

Over seventy-five persons from the Thorp area have benefited from Clark County’s participation in the Red Cross Blood Bank, initiated in the county only two years ago.

Dorothy Filo, 22, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Filo, Thorp recently appeared on the “Buddy Lester Show”, a musical show, which originates over a Chicago TV network.

25 Years Ago (1981)

The first commencement of T.H.S. was held June 20, 1899 in the Walsdorf’s Hall. It was the building that stood where the dime store is today.

It has been four years since the Jazz and Show Choir concept was received and this year’s vocal ensemble promises to be the most outstanding musical organization that Al Accola has every assembled. Members of the THS Hot Jazz are: Kirsten Hmielak, Dawn Andruskiewicz, Eva Malecki, Jodi Svoma, Barb Pawlak, Michael Czech, James Langteau, Kandie Syryczuk, Brent Kryzanski, Todd Kryzanski, Mike Pabich, Eric Zoromski, Jenny Kryzanski and Bill Lewandowski.

10 Years Ago (1996)

This year’s Miss Thorp contestants are: Toni J. Gulcynski, Kelli Klapatauskas, and Alison Woods. Princess Thorp candidates are: Rebecca Auburt, Danielle LaVick, Amy Prokopinski, Megan Stroinski and Sonya Zell.

The 1996 Senior Farmer Award was presented to Alvin and Betty Benzschawel at the FFA Alumni Spring Banquet.

For the first time in history, the Clark County Board of Supervisors will be meeting in Thorp to debate the pros and cons of the new court house.

The Thorp Area Historical Society is happy to announce the energetic start of their second year.

Shane Swope and Bryan Leech are both going to the State Track Meet held in La Crosse on Friday, May 31 and Saturday, June 1. Swope will be competing in the shot put and discus while Leech will be going for the first time to participate in the high jump.
