100 Years Ago (1906)

A Pennsylvania club has admitted a horse to membership. That’s nothing: there are asses in almost every club.

W. R. McCutcheon purchased C. F. Rainey’s drug stock last week, and the later will move to Black River Falls.

Rev. Jon. Rayski of Marathon County was the guest of Father Pudlo, pastor of St. Hedwig’s church.

75 Years Ago (1931)

The new building, 20x54, that’s being erected near the United Super Service Station has already been leased by Ed. Drangel for use as a “Sweet Shop”.

Soo Line Fares: From Thorp to Chicago $15.30; Minneapolis $6.15; St. Paul $5.75.

Taft Township—Little Charlotte Ness was rushed to the doctor after having drunk some kerosene. She has improved wonderfully but her condition at first was very serious.

 

50 Years Ago (1956)

Army Pvt. Fredrickson, Thorp, recently began six months of active duty training at Fort Leonard Wood, MO, under the Reserve Forces Act.

The Rev. Joseph A Walijewski, assistant at St. Peter’s Catholic Church at Stevens Point, and a former assistant at Thorp, will be the La Crosse Diocese’s first priest to officially represent the diocese in a foreign country.

Army PFC Richard V. Swienton, 22, son of Frant Swienton, Thorp, is participating in three weeks filed (field) training exercises with the 11th Airborne Division’s 188th Infantry Regiment at Hohenfels, Germany.

Mr. and Mrs. Ambrose Peleschak of Lublin were feted to a golden celebration in honor of their 50th wedding anniversary on July 14.

25 Years Ago (1981)

A program will begin soon in Thorp, which may help save lives. The Vial of Life program, which is being sponsored by several Thorp groups, is intended to make vital medical information readily available to emergency personnel.

A school-administered student fluoride mouth-rinse program was turned down by the Thorp Board of Education Monday night, July 20.

Thorp Firemen checked out three ambulances brought into Thorp from the Twin Cities for a demonstration.

10 Years Ago (1996)

On July 15, Barbara Horton opened Affordable Curtains and Country Interiors. She has had many years of experience in home decorating and sews all the curtains herself.

Ray Urbas retuned to his hometown to instruct area teachers in Dr. Robert Nash’s course “Project Success.”

A new law, which went into effect this month, bans transportation of children in pickup truck beds or other truck cargo areas.
