100 Years Ago (1906)

The Foster railroad was completed to Owen last week and train service will soon be established.

Contractor P. Finnegan has completed the interior finishing work on Anton Micke’s new brick farm residence in the Town of Worden. It is pronounced one of the handsomest and most substantial farmhouses in the county.

The city of Greenwood is now lighted by electricity. The power is furnished by a dam on Black River and the entire plant is first-class.

75 Years Ago (1931)

Gilbert Asselin and crew began the work of remodeling the school building on the inside this week.

Robert Peeples and Arnold Velcheck are attending the military training camp at Fort Snelling, MN.

Reseburg Ramblings—the barn on the Art Borck farm was destroyed by fire.

Karl L. Herzberg of Owen, and R. Clayton Rounds and Harold C. Gohdes of Withee have been granted licenses as registered pharmacists.

50 Years Ago (1956)

“With the large number of dealers inquiring for space at the Clark County Fair,” says Harold Huckstead, Fair Secretary, “the farm machinery exhibit promises to be exceptional.”

The main street by the post office looks a great deal different, since the two trees have been taken out by the city crew. Sabotage to dog owners on the main drag?

Paul Komanec Jr. caught a 19 lb. musky at Miller Dam. It was 41 inches long.

All the tearing up on the railroad tracks north of Thorp made life tough for motorists who had to negotiate coming and going into town and on employees of Foremost-Blue Moon.

Pvt. Donald C. Rogalski, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Rogalski of Thorp, completed four weeks of individual combat training in July at the Marine Corps Base, Camp Pendleton, CA.

25 Years Ago (1981)

Many people turned out to help new owner Tom Hempelman celebrate the open house of Hempelman Thorp Lumber Corp., July 24.

Lisa Merlak was selected Clark County’s Fairest of the Fair, July 25 in Loyal when she was crowned the 1981 Miss Clark County.

Gov. Lee Dreyfus has requested that nine central Wisconsin counties, including Clark County, be declared disaster areas as a result of the July 17 storm that swept the area.

10 Years Ago (1996)

Larry and Paula Paskert are enthusiastic about a new breed of cattle called Piedmontese. They have been raising them since 1994 when they bought their first bull “Cashman.”

Early estimates indicate that 335,000 hunters applied for Hunter’s Choice and Bonus Antlerless Deer Permits for the 1996 deer season by the July 20 deadline.
