100 Years Ago (1907)

Stanley Sunbeams – When the big saw mill of eh N-W L. Co. resumed operations at the beginning of the month the men who carry their dinners to the plant were gratified in finding that the Co. had provided for them a steam heated room.

John Roth sold his business property at Stanley on Monday to the Leinenkugel Brewing Co. Consideration $2200

About fifty new books have recently been placed on the Public Library shelves.

Dr. W. J. Frank was called to his former home at Pepin, WI, on Wednesday of last week to attend the funeral of his father who died quite suddenly of heart disease on that day.

75 Years Ago (1932)

A benefit dance to be given for the basketball boys injured in the automobile smash-up several weeks ago will be sponsored by the Thorp Lions Club.

Lief Larson, local manager of E. J. Crane & Sons Feed Elevator, received the gold cash award for increase in sales at this warehouse in December over a year ago. Ten other managers of Crane Warehouse were competitors.

County Line and ‘Round News – Mr. Frank Gosios had the misfortune of losing his barn and hay, which was destroyed by fire. All livestock was saved.

Roger Creek and Town Line – Our mailman is now delivering with team and sleigh.

The county agricultural committee has reappointed W. J. Landry as county agent for another two years.

50 Years Ago (1957)

Michael F. Przybylski, age 85, an employee of the City of Thorp for many several months of each year, passed away at the Stanley hospital of old age infirmities on January 12.

Deaths on Clark County highways during 1956 totaled 11, according to the county traffic department.

A horse owned by Irvin Drager, Thorp, had to be killed after the animal’s two hind legs were broken when it was hit by a car driven by Ronald Myslinski, 21, Thorp.

Thorp Cardinals won their tenth game of the season defeating the Holcombe Chieftains 95 to 43 at Holcombe.

25 Years Ago (1982)

The Thorpedo Restaurant, owned and managed by Jim and Judy Pfalzgraf, is the recipient of the 1982 Golden Butter Knife Award from the American Dairy Association of Wisconsin.

The City of Thorp experienced two water main breaks in the past week, between the two breaks. Temporary Director of Utilities, Mr. Bodamer, estimated a total water loss of 275,000 gallons.

The court of the Sadie Hawkins Winter Ball to be held on January 30 are Seniors – Shari Lewandowski and Jay Severs; Juniors – Karen Schmitz and Doug Grabowski; Queen Carrie Brunett and King Tim Borowski; Sophomores – Pam Bieno and Scott Strzok, and Freshmen – Theresa Rhyner and Jason Lange.
