100 Years Ago (1907)

Stanley Sunbeams – The scarlet fever scare is passing away, although two new cases have been discovered.

H. C. Tiedemann has been appointed deputy county surveyor, for the reason that county surveyor C. S. Stockwell expects to be absent from the county for a good portion of the balance of the year.

Carl Klouda purchased two lots located near the dam from John McGrogan last week. Consideration $100

75 Years Ago (1932)

Around the Corner – The Field School closed on Saturday and it was very sad to hear that Mr. Kulwiec who signed a contract to teach his eleventh term at this school, has resigned.

Breezy Hill Cheese Factory Neighborhood – The residence on the George Massage farm west of here was entirely consumed by fire Sunday forenoon.

Edward Barski was one of the two placemen and medal winners in the Eau Claire High School district track meet Saturday.  Ed ran the mile placing 3rd.

50 Years Ago (1957)

Purchase of the Small Loan Finance Co., Stoughton, by the Thorp Finance Corp, has been announced.

The Stanley City Council has voted to donate about one-fourth of their city park and a part of Park Avenue to Victory Memorial Hospital for the new addition.

A demonstration in protest to the release of their band director, Lloyd Barrows, by the Stanley Board of Education, was staged at Stanley this past week.

Wages paid to hired farm workers in Wisconsin this spring are averaging the highest on record.  On April 1 farm workers were averaging 178 dollars a month with a house and 132 dollars with board and room.

25 Years Ago (1982)

The Earth Station of Dish belonging to Thorp Cablevision was transported into Thorp on Monday, May 17 from Ocala, Florida. The dish was unloaded at the lot on N. Franklin St. in Thorp next to the old telephone garage.

For the fifth consecutive year, the FBLA Parliamentary Procedure Team from Thorp High School placed first in the state.

At 10 p.m. on Wed., May 12, approximately 1500 gallons of liquid nitrogen fertilizer was spilled from a Dahlen Transport trailer during a transfer of the fertilizer to a tank at the Thorp Skelgas Co.

Nancy Florence (formerly Nancy Welzien), a 1966 graduate of Thorp High School was one of the 7,600 competitors in the 1982 Boston Marathon on April 19.

10 Years Ago (1997)

The 1997 Silver Crest Award was given to Alison Woods and Lana Wirtala.

Kelli Klapatauskas was the 1997 recipient of the Gold Crest Award.
