Thorp High Alumni Reunion Brings Friends Back Together

THIRTY-THIRD ALL-THORP ALUMNI REUNION

Another large turnout of Thorp alumni attended the 33rd edition of the All-Thorp reunion held at the Thorp High School multi-purpose room.  This was the third year that the reunion was held at the high school.  The memorabilia display was open to the public on Friday and Saturday, a social hour was held at 4:00 P.M. on Saturday, followed by the alumni dinner and program.

Linda Disher was the head cook and was assisted by Bev. Abramczak.  The wonderful Swiss steak and chicken dinner, served family style, was a hit with all attendees.  The waitresses and kitchen help was provided by the parents and students of the St. Bernard-St. Hedwig’s Catholic School.

A special friend of the Thorp Alumni Association attended the banquet.  Mary North, wife of the late Stu North, was greeted by many friends.  Stu and Mary came to Thorp in 1946.  Stu coached football and basketball, and both Stu and Mary taught at THS until 1951.  They made a huge impact on the young people with whom they dealt and were dearly loved by the people of Thorp.  For the golfers, Stu and Mary are parents of professional golfer and golf analyst, Andy North.

1932 THS Graduate Honored

Sylvia (Krause) Colins, a 1932 graduate of Thorp High School, was honored at the alumni reunion dinner on July 7th.

Ms. Colins was valedictorian of the 1932 class.  In the 1932 Seniorian, she said, “LIFE IS A BIG THING – LIVE IT! ALL YOU CAN GIVE – GIVE IT!”

Sylvia has attended all but one of the 33 Thorp reunions.  Congratulations, Sylvia.

2007 TAA Scholarship Recipients Introduced

The 2007 TAA Scholarship recipients were introduced to the crowd of Thorp Alumni.  They were Marie Benzschawel, Matt Lewan, Sarah Van Slambrouck and Jennifer Vetterkind.  David Alger was unable to attend.

Each recipient received a $500 scholarship toward their advanced education.  Prior to 2007, fewer scholarships were given and the value of each was $300.  The increases were a result of continued donations to the TAA Scholarship Fund by generous Thorp alumni who want to give something back to their school.

Donations to the TAA Scholarship Fund can be sent to: TAA, Box 75, Thorp, WI 54771
