Stanley Sunbeams – The Farmers and Merchants Bank building standing on the corner of Bartlet and Willard Sts. Has been disposed of and will be moved a little of its location and on the old bank site on the corner is to be erected a new up-to-date bank building of stone and brick. – The officers of the Stanley Copper and Mining Co., and others visited certain clay deposits on Paint Creek and found the clay suitable for making superior brick, but beyond securing an option on the land where the clay is located, nothing has been done.

75 Years Ago (1932)

The four year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Smith of Eidsvold wandered into the woods to pick flowers near the Harley Copenhaver home in Worden, Sunday afternoon, where the Smiths were visiting on Sunday.  She did not return and after a several hour search a call for help was sent to the local calvary (cavalry) troop, the members of which promptly responded but before they got action the little Miss was discovered walking along the highway about three miles from the Copenhaver home.

Lightning struck the Martin Tomkowiak farm home during the storm on Tuesday morning, doing about $25 damage.

Otto C. Hiller today announced that on Saturday this week he will open his store to his friends in Thorp as a member of the largest group of independent merchants in the United States – the Red & White Stores.

Roger Creek and Town Line – Harry Boie of Freimund’s Corner threshed for the farmers in this locality last week.  He has a small separator and a gasoline tractor.

During the heavy rainstorm on Tuesday morning, Mrs. Melvin Nye’s barn, located north of the village limits, caught fire, evidently struck by lightning, and was entirely consumed.

Fort Dix, NJ – Pvt.-1 Roger L. Hoffman, 21, of Thorp, Wisconsin, has been assigned to C Company 1st Training Regiment here for eight weeks of Infantry basic training in conjunction with the 1955 Reserve Forces Act.

Thrilling climax to the Dairy Day celebration at the 1957 State Fair this month will be the crowning of the new “Alice in Dairyland,” who will be chosen from among the four 1957 “Alice Princesses.”  From Thorp comes one of the “princesses” Diane Zaborowski, 19, who has just finished her first year of nurse’s training.

25 Years Ago (1982)

With an appropriate touch of fall in the air on Monday morning, August 9, practice began for members of the Thorp Cardinals 1982 football team.
