100 Years Ago (1907)

Stanley Sunbeams – Yep Lam who has been running a Chinese laundry at this place for the last five or six years left last week for China having sold his business to one Yep Wah, a brother Celestial, who will carry on the business at the old stand.

Reseburg Ramblings – While assisting in operating a threshing machine at Mrs. Aug. Pagel’s farm on Saturday last Robert Telford had the thumb and first finger of his left hand so badly crushed while adjusting the blower as to necessitate the amputation of both members.

Anton and Roy Heagle sold their stock in the Thorp Manf’g Cos, factory on Tuesday to Mrs. John Roth, Geo. Burke, Jas. Connor and L. O. Garrison.

75 Years Ago (1932)

Mike Szerlong, who has been located at Eau Claire for several years past, has bought the barber fixtures and taken over the shop in the Peter Stszeszynski building on Washington Street.

John and Herb Lee who have been operating a restaurant in the Stanley Borysiewicz building, have moved into the “Sweet Shop” recently vacated by Ed. Drangel on highway 29 owned by Dr. W. F. Nolechek.

Thos. Polnaszek, who was defeated by Herman Olson in the primary, for the Clark County Sheriff nomination, has announced his intention of running on the independent ticket in the November election.

50 Years Ago (1957)

Robert M. Novak, Thorp, WI, was among the 744 students who received their undergraduate and graduate degrees this fall as the result of their final scholastic work in the 1957 summer sessions of the University of Wisconsin.

Chief Aviator Machinists Mate, Percy A. Schafer, 40, son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Schafer, Winneconne, was killed when a heavy jet bomber crashed in attempting to land on the carrier Forrestal during NATO maneuvers.  Schafer, a native of Owen, WI, and a graduate of Owen High School, was a resident of Jacksonville, FL.

25 Years Ago (1982)

Nancy Smith, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Smith, Lublin, WI was crowned State Polka Queen of Wisconsin.

The Glory Motor Sales building is a grand old establishment that stands on the corner of N. Boardman and E. Stanley Street in Thorp.  It is indeed a mini mall as it now houses four businesses under one roof; Glory Motor Sales, Don’s Body Shop, Denny’s Radio and TV and Ray’s 76 Service.

10 Years Ago (1997)

Now attending Thorp High School are Dolly Alexicva and Miriam Aroscmcna, both here through AYA, or Academic Year in America.

Frank Hoffman, formerly of Thorp and Greenwood, now living at Wells Nature View in Marshfield, celebrated his 100th birthday on September 21, 1997.
