100 Years Ago (1907)

Stanley Sunbeams – The tax on assessable property in the city this year is to be three percent.

Bobb’s Mill and Country’ Round – Willard Randall has sold his farm, machinery and livestock to Joseph Bogumill.  Consideration $5500

L. Hayes has been appointed village marshal, his salary fixed at $20 per month.

W. P. Randall sold his eighty-acre farm in the Town of Reseburg to Jos. Bogumill last week.  Mr. and Mrs. Randall are among the oldest settlers in this vicinity.

75 Years Ago (1932)

The Chili State Bank failed to open for business Monday morning, and the Abbotsford bank did not open today.  Officials of both institutions stated that the banks were in the hands of the state banking commission and would be liquidated at once.

The banks at Withee and Owen failed to pen (open) their doors on Saturday morning last and were placed in the hands of the State Banking Commission.

Goggle Eye News – The school for District No. 1 located in this neighborhood, was completed last week and on Monday of this week was opened to begin the first year of school work therein.

50 Years Ago (1957)

The Thorp Dairy Bar has been sold to Leon Pawlek, who will take over the business November 1st.

Another change, which will occur in Thorp, is that Hryniewicki TV and Appliance is going out of business.  Walter has accepted a position with the state.

When the wheels of the new city grader sunk out of sight Thursday on repairing Main Street it was the second time it occurred.  Before, it happened behind Lyman Lumber Co., in the sawdust.

25 Years Ago (1982)

Tragedy resulted from a farm tractor accident on October 19, claiming the life of a Thorp woman, Mrs. Mary J. Meunier, 38.

On October 13, 1,600 smallmouth bass fingerlings were stocked at various points in the South Fork of the Eau Claire River, south of Thorp.

Bob Tetzner, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Tetzner of Thorp, completed a mural, “Panther Hunt” last August in a bar in River Falls.  Tetzner has painted about eight murals, several of those in Thorp where Bob attended grade and high school.

10 Years Ago (1997)

First place winner of the 1997 Clark County land conservation poster contest was Kellie Luzinski, seventh grade, daughter of Toni and Larry Luzinski.
