100 Years Ago (1907)

Stanley Sunbeams – Four saloonkeepers were arrested on the 21st inst. charged with having curtains and blinds drawn in their saloon windows in such a manner that the passersby could see into their saloon.

Wm. Soderberg who will log for the Chippewa Lumber and Boom Co., north of here, went into camp on Monday.

Dr. F. D. Jackey and family moved here from Stanley last week and are now occupying their residence recently purchased from Dr. McKittrick.

75 Years Ago (1932)

Leon Drangel purchased the Polley Cheese Factory from John Biser on Monday last, taking possession on Tuesday.

At the recent Girl Scout meeting, which was held on October 25, the following new members were present: Marjorie Soderberg, Doris Soderberg, Dorothy Larson and Clarice Warner.

The recent snowfall has compelled the farmers to bring home their young stock that has been pastured elsewhere as well as to begin feeding hay.

Several inches of snow fell on Sunday night last.

50 Years Ago (1957)

The fires alarm sounded here Friday at 11:45 a.m. for the Thorp Rural Fire Department to answer a call at the Carl Onisczuk farm located three miles east and 5 ½ miles south of Thorp in the Town of Reseburg.

Plenty of rumors flying around on who will take over the post office.  No word from the GOP high command on something definite.

25 Years Ago (1982)

The Tuesday Night Commercial Bowling League at the Cardinal Bowl in Thorp honored Ed and Charlotte Polnaszek on October 26 for their many years of service to the bowlers.  Ed Polnaszek took over the Cardinal Bowl in 1950, and his father, Tom Polnaszek purchased and ran the bowling alley from 1930 to 1950.

10 Years Ago (1997)

Bern’s Sales is now located at 201 E. Hill St. in a new 2,750 sq. ft. brick building.  Grand opening of the new location was held September 19.

Thorp Fire and Ambulance District members voted unanimously in favor of the board proceeding with purchase of a new ambulance and construction of a new fire station.
