100 Years Ago (1907)

Reseburg Ramblings – Eph Heideman and family have arrived from Kiel and will make their future home here.

Twenty-four foreign money orders were issued at the local post office last week the amount aggregating $1,622.66.

The new Polish Catholic Church built in Sec. 8, Town of Thorp, in the midst of a growing Polish community, will be blessed by Rev. F. X. Pudlo, pastor of St. Hedwig’s Church on Sunday, Dec. 8.

75 Years Ago (1932)

A lone armed bandit help (held) up the cashier and robbed the State Bank of Lublin Tuesday afternoon about 1:30, escaping with about $900 in currency.  The cashier, Frank Kulwiec, was alone in the bank at the time, but Gunder Anderson of Owen and Carl Beilfuss, cashier of the Withee Bank entered at the time the robber was making his get-a-way.

About 25 neighbors & friends gathered and pleasantly surprised Peter Kronberg at his home Wednesday evening, Nov. 16.  The occasion was his 60th birthday.

50 Years Ago (1957)

A group of 38 prisoners from the Flambeau Forest State Prison Camp near Hawkins have joined in the search for 69-year-old Ray Carothers of Cornell, a diabetic who has been missing in the wild forest area there for a week.

Al Ogurek suffered injuries to his shoulder and neck late Monday when he fell from the large city truck while sanding the streets.

The government has ordered a 100 percent increase in the potency of Asian flu vaccine to provide physicians in Thorp and elsewhere with a more powerful weapon against the rapidly spreading epidemic.

25 Years Ago (1982)

A fire on Friday, Nov. 26 destroyed a home belonging to Jens Nicolaisen in the Town of Withee.

A total of 331 deer were registered at Jerry’s Sport Shop in Thorp during the nine-day deer gun season that concluded on Sunday afternoon, November 28.

Lyle “Corky” Christensen, formerly of Thorp, represented Colony Cove in the Golden Age Games recently held in Sanford, Florida.

Mrs. Helen Settinsgaard of Thorp managed a double ringer during a friendly game of horseshoes while visiting with relatives in Flin Flon, Manitoba.

10 Years Ago (1997)

Two outstanding players from the Cardinals’ 1997 football team are Craig Luzinski and Clint Klapatauskas.  Both seniors contributed to an outstanding 1997 season for the Cardinals.

At the annual budget hearing held Wed., November 19, the Thorp Common Council adopted the 1998 budget establishing a tax levy of $256,844 with a mil rate of 8.11 reflecting an increase of $979 over the 1997 tax levy of $255,865 with a mil rate of $8.08.
