100 Years Ago (1908)

Stanley Sunbeams – 25 large electric street lamps are being put into position ready for service, so that the city may now all of a sudden find itself illuminated.

A new ten horse power gasoline engine has been installed at N. P. Hansen’s shops to drive, the various machinery used in connection with the shops.

75 Years Ago (1933)

Chas. Herman and Frank Graham escaped serious injury last week when coming north on Krause’s Hill south of Thorp with a truckload of pole wood.  They couldn’t make the shift to second on the hill and started backward.  Graham jumped on the running board and tried to keep the truck in the road but it struck the ditch, hit a rock and tipped over with Frank underneath.  He suffered some severe bruises with no broken bones.  Chas. Herman escaped without a scratch.  He was inside the cab.

Butler items – Wm. Mayenschein has moved his saw mill on the land owned by Henry Dittner, to saw a setting of logs into ties.

50 Years Ago (1958)

Joseph Edward, son of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Borowski, route 3, Thorp, was the first baby of the New Year to be born at Victory Memorial Hospital.  Joseph, who was delivered by Dr. Philip Jorgenson of Thorp at 1:38 a.m. on January 2, tipped the scales at seven pounds and ten ounces.

Eight Clark County men were inducted into the Army at Minneapolis January 8.  They are Louis J. Janda, Abbotsford; James H. Orlieb and Edwin C. Broeske of Dorchester; James J. Koci and Vernon E. Plautz of Greenwood; Walter R. Berzinski, Roger H. Frese, and Donald L. Nevela, all of Thorp. They were assigned to Ft. Leonard Wood, MO, for basic training.

25 Years Ago (1983)

The City of Thorp now has a city clerk after nearly three and one-half months without a clerk.  Ms. Ellen Peleschak assumed the duties of Clerk-Treasurer for the City of Thorp on Monday, January 17.

Miss Lynne Billmeyer assumed the position of Business Education teacher at Thorp High School on Monday, January 17.

10 Years Ago (1998)

The newly appointed Clark County Veterans Service Officer, Donald Lander, brings experience with him as he takes the position of serving the needs of Clark County veterans.

Kathryn Pszeniczny has been named Tourism Development Coordinator for the Clark County Economic Development Corporation, Greenwood.
