100 Years Ago (1908)

The “State Seal of Montana,” one of the finest cigars manufactured, on sale constantly at the Senate, Jas. Connor, Prop. Be sure and try them and you will smoke no other. Also several other fine brands to select from.

Miss Frances Jasinek, 14, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. M. Jasinek, died of pneumonia at the home of her parents in the Town of Withee on Sunday, April 12, 1908.

75 Years Ago (1933)

We received a notice last week that Frank Velchek, youngest son of Mrs. John Velchek, product of the village of Thorp schools, has again been elected local chairman of the members of the Order of Railway Telegraphers on the Stevens Point division of the Soo Line.

John J. Irvine, Clark County clerk from 1923 to 1932, was taken to the state penitentiary at Waupun today to begin a term of 5 to 20 years for embezzlement of Clark County funds.

50 Years Ago (1958)

A fire broke out of an undetermined origin at the Bob Schesel farm about 11:45 a.m., Wednesday morning.

Gerald Boardman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Boardman, was named valedictorian of the class of 1958 in Thorp High School. Brian Hendricks, son of Mr. and Mrs. Anton Hendricks, was named salutatorian.

Cecil Tormey Post members of the American Legion and Auxiliary members gathered at the local legion hall Saturday evening to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the American Legion organization.

25 Years Ago (1983)

Mr. and Mrs. John McIntire, Thorp, would like to announce the ordination of their son, Christopher John, to the order of deacon.

Eighth grader, Julie Kodl, represented Thorp Catholic School at the Regional Spelling Beer (Bee) for the CESA 6 area held recently at Gilman.

Reigning over the 1983 Junior Prom is King Jim Rademaker and Queen Kathy Glasshof.

The Thorp High School faculty has chosen Jay Bernard Stuttgen to represent Thorp High School in quest of one of ten $1500 state-wide scholarships given by the Wisconsin State Telephone Foundation.

10 Years Ago (1998)

Scott Betker, new owner of Scott’s pub located at 207 N. Washington, plans to offer something new to downtown Thorp.

Chandra Conway, daughter of Tim and Debie Conway of Thorp, attended the Miss Wisconsin National Teenager Pageant in Brookfield, WI on March 27 and 28.
