100 Years Ago (1908)

The Thorp Courier published weekly at $1.50 per year.

A full carload of butter and cheese was shipped from this station on Monday. Shipments are made twice each week.

Nearly 11,000 pounds of butter were manufactured by the two creameries in this village last week, and the flush season is still to come. Two cheese factories, one in Worden, the other in Reseburg townships made about 7,000 pounds of cheese during the same period. This beats saw mill days.

75 Years Ago (1933)

Thorp’s baseball club finally won their first fame of the season by winning from Greenwood by the score of 6 to 4.

June 4, 1933 will indeed be a day to be remembered by the people of Thorp and vicinity. It will be an “American Legion Day” and the post members, together with the public spirited citizens, will do all in their power to make welcome, the visitors from the surrounding towns and Southern Wisconsin. Cecil Tormey Post is certainly lucky in having Thorp designated at the 7th District Convention City at this time.

50 Years Ago (1958)

Clark County is fourth in Wisconsin, ranking next to Dane, Marathon and Dodge, in volume of milk produced in 1957, according to the Federal-State Reporting Service.

Harry Smith, World War I veteran was re-elected to the office of Commander of Cecil Tormey Post No. 118, American Legion of Thorp.

25 Years Ago (1983)

July 1, 1983 will mark the twenty-second anniversary of the Thorp Post Office location at 102 East School Street. The early 1900’s were the years that the well-known Hanson-Zaborowski Implement Company stood on this spot.

Eight young women of the Thorp area have placed their names in the 1983 Thorp Queen Contest: Naomi Bieno, Rosanne Ciolkosz, Kimberly Hahn, Sherri Lendosky, Julie Roytek, Kathy Sayles, Susan Voelker and Terry Wetzel.

Thorp Cardinal Tracksters recently honored were: Most valuable – Kandi Syryczuk, Most Improved – Laurie Jo Voelker, Most Valuable Player – Jay Stuttgen and most Improved – Gary Konieczny.

10 Years Ago (1998)

Marshfield Clinic will close its Stanley Center on July 2, 1998 and begin recruiting an additional family practitioner for its Thorp Center.
